Reading

Our Reading Program incorporates phonics, spelling, writing skills, handwriting, grammar, and reading. We do whole class instruction and small guided reading groups. Our spelling words are words we are working on in phonics and reading.  The spelling test will be each Friday.

Math

At Home Pearson Review

The students will have homework almost everyday. I will try not to send homework home on Fridays/Holidays. We are currently using Envisions 4.0. Each day we will try to practice our facts using XtraMath. Then we have a lesson and an activity to practice the new skill. Please be sure to check over your child’s math work each evening and let me know what problems they seem to be having trouble with.

Reading/Spelling/Grammar:

We will be utilizing Journey’s for Reading, Grammar, and Spelling again this year. Tests will normally be on Friday unless special events like Great Escape occur on those mornings. If this happens tests will be on Thursday. Spelling lists will be sent home each Monday. They can also be found on my class website.

Social Studies:

In order to meet the Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) I will be pulling information from multiple resources this year. It will be important for your student to make sure they keep all necessary materials in their Social Studies folder. It is my goal to provide a study guide at the beginning of each Unit/Chapter so that your student can complete the study guide as we discuss the content. There will be times when your student won’t be able to bring the learning materials home due to the number of resources available.

Science:

Typically In 4th Grade you would have Ms. Heaper for Science. However this year things will be a little bit different. I will be teaching our class Science.  In order to meet the Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) we will be pulling information from multiple resources this year. It will be important for your student to make sure they keep all necessary materials in their Science folder.
